Business Architecture is a vital discipline to create "Desirable Futures". It aligns strategic business change with external demands, opportunities (including technology and information) and I.T. capabilities.


Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the course, you will be equipped to perform as a business architect. Specifically you will be able to:

  • Understand the position, scope and objectives of Business Architecture and its relationship to neighbouring dicsiplines including strategy, programme management, requirements engineering and information technology implementation
  • Analyse the context the organisation operates in and its impact on strategy, plans and architecture
  • Demonstrate awareness of "macro trends" occurring in technology, society and business and how these impact what is possible and desirable
  • Understand the business, its strengths, challenges, opportunities and risks
  • Work with executives to shape the vision, mission, goals, objectives and initiatives
  • Model interaction of the enterprise as it exchanges value with stakeholders
  • Define value chains and networks and understand core capabilities required to deliver value
  • Contribute to creation of innovative products, services, operating models and user journeys
  • Improve or engineer effective and efficient processes and services
  • Work with organisation design on innovative human resource and skills plans
  • Understand the strategic role of data and information and appreciate conceptual data models of the domain
  • Define initiatives that will address gaps and build the necessary capabilities for the enterprise to achieve its aspirations

  • Identifying Gaps, Defining Initiatives and Priorties
  • Implementation Roadmap Planning.

Approach

The course is presented online but live, via Zoom with interactive video, discussion and breakaway groups. Just over half the time is "hands on" with students tackling individual assignments and group assignments to experience and reinforce concepts and techniques. A comprehensive case study flows through the full course, allowing students to see the application of concepts through a full business architecture lifecycle.
Comprehensive notes are provided and significant enrichment in the form of short videos, provided articles, references and links. We also provide an eBook on Enterprise Architecture as Strategy and access to an alumni website where further materials are added over time.

The course is intended for anyone who wants to become competent as a Business Architect or who operates in a role where these skills are valuable. Typical attendees have previously been

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, but it is recommended that students have prior experience of business or other work experience. Exposure to information technology, projects and modelling would also be an advantage.
